Edwin Choque - Bolivia


    Edwin

  • Latest report:
    Edwin is now level 5 of primary school in Bolivia, equivalent to fifth grade in Canada. His school work is average.
    Playing with cars, singing and playing with marbles are Edwin's favorite recreational activities.
    In his home, helps by making beds, running errands and cleaning. He lives with his father, who is not employed, and his mother, who is sometimes employed. There are 4 children in the family.

    Edwin lives in the community of Zona Villa Avaroa, home to approximately 10,800 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, adobe walls and corrugated iron roofs. The primary ethnic group in this area is Aymara and the most commonly spoken language is Spanish.
    Common health problems in this area include respiratory illnesses, malnutrition and intestinal parasites. Many adults in Zona Villa Avaroa are unemployed but some find work as day laborers and earn about $59 per month. This community needs proper sanitation, employment opportunities, law enforcement and alcohol rehabilitation programs.
  • Project: BO-139, Villa Avaroa Student Center:
    Sponsorship allows staff of Villa Avaroa Student Center to provide Edwin with Bible teaching, hygiene classes, nutritious food, field trips, help with homework, and preschool programs. The center staff also provide handcrafting courses for the parents or guardians of sponsored children.

 

Dayana Yucra - Bolivia

    Dayana lives with her father and mother. Her father is sometimes employed and her mother maintains the home. Dayana works at home cleaning. There are 4 children in the family.

    Dayana lives on the plains of Telchi, 6 km southwest of Santa Cruz City, home to approximately 15,000 residents. Typical housing are constructed of cement floors, brick walls, and tile roofs. The most commonly spoken language is Spanish. Common health problems in this area include anemia, respiratory infections, and dental decay. Most adults in Telchi are unemployed but some work as bricklayers and earn the equivalent of $72 per month. This community needs academic support and employment opportunities.
  • Project: Buenas Nuevas (Good News) Student Center:
    Sponsorship allows staff of Buenas Nuevas Student Center to provide Dayana with Bible teaching, medical check-ups, hygiene education, recreational activities, field trips, tutoring, and nutritious food. The center staff also provide evangelism, counseling, workshops, and conferences for the parents or guardians of sponsored children.

 

Andres Segura - Colombia

    Andres is presently in level 4 or primary school in Colombia, which is equivalent to fourth grade in Canada. His performance is average.
    Soccer, swimming and art are Andre's favorite recreational activities. He also attends Sunday school and vacation Bible school regularly.
    Andres lives with his father and his mother, who are both employed as laborers. There are 3 children in the family. Duties at home include washing clothes, making beds and running errands.
  • Community Info:
    Child abuse and neglect are common in this violent, drug-ridden slum community, where children live in crowded tenement conditions with extended family members. Underemployment is high and many youth do not finish secondary school because there are not enough schools to meet the population's needs.
  • Project: Student Centre El Encuentro:
    The El Encuentro Student Centre, in the southwestern Columbian city of Santiago de Cali, brings hope. Children enrolled in this project receive a balanced meal and snack three days a week, tutoring, and regular medical and dental care. Most important, children learn about God's faithful love for His children through daily devotions. Families are offered Christian counseling and training in healthy relationships.

 

Rafelina Beriguete Encarnacion - Dominican Republic

    Rafelina lives with her father and bother. Her duties at home include carrying water, washing clothes and making beds. There are 7 children in the family. Her father is sometimes employed as a laborer and her mother maintains the home.

    Rafelina lives on the dry plains of Las Matas de Farfan, home to approximately 56,112 residents. Typical homes are constructed of cement floors, wood walls, and zinc roofs. The primary language is Spanish.
    Common health problems include parasites, diarrhea, and flue. Most adults work as subsistence farmers and earn the equivalent of $85 per month. The community is in need of evangelism, vocational training, recreational centers, and employment opportunities.
  • Project: DR-351, Integral Development Center:
    Sponsorship allows the staff of Integral Development Center to provide Rafelina with Bible teaching, medical and dental checkups, nutritious food, hygiene education, field trips, holiday celebrations, dramas, sports competitions, computer and typewriting classes, uniforms, and after school activities.

 

Dheravath Vijay - India

  • Birthday: November 6, 1986
  • Latest report:
    Vijay is now in level 10 of high school in India, which is equivalent to tenth grade in Canada. His school work is average. In the future he plans to attend college.
    Soccer, swimming and volleyball are Vijay's favorite recreational activities. He also attends Sunday school regularly.
    Vijay lives part of the year at St. Peter's Boarding Home but returns home to live with his father and mother during breaks. His father and mother are sometimes employed as farmers. There are 4 children in the family. Everyday duties for Vijay include carrying water, gathering firewood and buying or selling in the market.
  • Community Info:
    Vijay lives in a Christian hostel in a small mountain village. Most of the children are from a mountain gypsy tribe. Alcoholism and the caste system are major problems. Most parents are illiterate and choose magic and folk medicine instead of conventional medical care for their families.
  • Project: St. Peter's Boarding Home:
    Hinduism is the dominant religion in this area, however at the boarding home, children receive Christian training. They receive Bibles and enjoy learning Bible stories, memorizing Scripture, and singing.
    Lack personal hygiene and malnutrition are problems for most children when they arrive, however, at St. Peter's Home they learn good health and hygiene practices. Once a year they go to the village to teach what they have learned. They receive periodic health screenings, and medical care is provided as needed.
